- New school food service employees who plan menus or maintain food production records
- Experienced school food service employees (only those who plan menus or maintain food production records) who want a refresher on SMI requirements
- NuMenus Implementation: This 6-hour class covers menu planning requirements for the NuMenus option. This class is required prior to implementation of NuMenus.
- Food-Based Menu Planning and Record-Keeping: This 6-hour class covers menu planning and record-keeping requirements for the Food-Based option.
When does the training take place?
- NuMenus Implementation classes are normally held in October and April. This is to allow adequate lead time for preparation between the time of training and implementation.
- Food-Based Menu Planning and Record-Keeping classes are held in April and August.
- NuMenus Implementation classes are normally held in two central locations.
- Other SMI classes are offered at multiple locations across the state.

- There is no charge.
- Complete the registration form available in the June training mailer or upon request from Nutrition Services
- Register early! Registrations will be accepted on a first-come first-serve basis. Advance registration is required. The number of participants at each location is limited.
- Written registrations must be received by Nutrition Services, KSDE no later than one (1) calendar week prior to the class date.
- The authorized representative is requested to submit all registrations for the School Food Authority in a single group. No registration confirmations will be mailed. However, you will be notified if the class is canceled due to insufficient enrollment.
