Cook for Sedgwick County Department of Corrections. Assists in overseeing kitchen operations and performs all aspects of food handling, preparation, cooking, serving, storage, and cleaning in a detention/residential setting for clients in Division of Corrections' facilities. Must demonstrate knowledge of the nutritional needs of clients, practice sanitary methods of food handling, be sensitive to individual, cultural and religious food preferences of clients, and be understanding of the needs and types of special diets and varieties of food preparation required in this setting. Physical Requirements: Includes significant lifting (up to 50 pounds), carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. Typically, the job requires 10% sitting, 20% walking and 70% standing. Job Standards: High school diploma or equivalent. Two years of experience in institutional or large volume cooking. Food Handler's Certification - Sedgwick County Environmental Health Department. Valid Driver's License and good driving record. Proof of liability insurance on personal vehicle. Must pass legal background check, Child and Adult Abuse & Neglect Central Registry checks, KCJIS Security Policy (fingerprint) check, and pre-employment screen for alcohol and drugs.
